Popolopen

Ran the Popolopen on Saturday.

It was a little low, but most of it was runnable. Unfortunately, though, the 1-1.5 mile run took us five hours because the portage trails on the banks were sheets of ice. Near the end of the run is a huge dam (which had a pool above it that was completely frozen) followed by an extremely sketchy 20-30 foot drop that is normally a relatively straightforward portage on a trail up and then back down a hill to river level. We couldn't get back down to river level, though, and had to take this trail -- which I could not stand on, because of the ice, and which had a very steep slope falling a pretty long way down to river level on one side -- all the way out to the road at the end of the run. We had to set up ropes to get across certain sections of the trail safely.

Seems like it'll be a fun run, though, with a little more water and a bit less ice on the sides. I have a very short video clip of one of the bigger ledges that I'll post sometime.
